Question & Answering
Today I interviewed Joi about what she does and a little about where she is from. She is an eccentric person and loves to laugh. She was very insightful about her position on the Campus Activity Bored. Here's a little bit of what she had to say.
My name is Joi and I am a junior at SC State majoring in Child Development with hopes to become a child social worker. Other than CAB, here at State I also participate in Kinks and Curls and I am a mentor and the community service director of Girl What's Wrong? mentoring group. My current dreams in life are to keep living it to the fullest, accomplishing my goals, maintaining mental health, and becoming the woman I was destined to be.

Q: What is it about this year that is different with CAB?
A: Being this is my first year on CAB, I'm not sure of the inside differences. I can say that my experience so far has made me feel a bit back in place within playing my part regarding school pride, the love of socializing with new people, and being a part of a family-like organization who knows how to balance business and fun.
Q: Do you feel that since the pandemic, school moral has declined? if so what do you think the reason is?
A: With actually having this conversation with a few peers, I believe school moral here at SC State is rising and declining depending on the circumstances. My reasons for the decline since the pandemic would be some students not wanting to get COVID tested or wearing masks when required, the online vs. in person lessons which can be exhausting and cause mental or behavioral changes, and the sudden incidents that happens to our fellow bulldogs whether it's a student(s), faculty, or staff member. It's all how we process everything mentally, physically, and emotionally that goes on related to anything on campus that determines whether our own school moral elevates or declines.
Q: During the course of the school year, is it harder to get students more so involved in activities?
A: Absolutely not. Especially since it's been over 2 years since we've been on campus. Personally, if you listen to what the students want, get everyone to advertise, and have it planned on the right day and time, students will join no questions asked. Plus, it's college and majority of students will follow the crowd.
Q: What is CAB main objective?
A: CAB: Campus Activities Board
Our soul purpose is to create, organize, and host events weekly that gets students away from their computer screens and textbooks just for a little while to have a little fun with fellow peers and to just simply relax from assignments and school as a whole. CAB activities are like how Christmas is to some folks- just can't wait to see what new thing our committee has put together.
Q: What are some of the ideas you have that we can piggy back off of this year?
A: I would piggy back off of the student faves- all plaza meltdowns, trap and paints, and of course homecoming and bulldog fest events.
Q: I know you aren't supposed to talk about bulldog fest, but what are some things that the student Body can look forward to?
A: All I can say is look forward to entertainment and a variety of fun. If you missed hoco, you definitely shouldn't miss this. Even if you didn't miss it, come and spread the word!
